During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the transformation direction of China's motorcycle industry has become increasingly clear: electrification, intelligence, globalization, high-end development, and greening will become the five major trends that interweave and empower each other.

Electrification is not just about replacing the power system but about reconstructing an integrated ecosystem of 'vehicle, electricity, station, and network.' Intelligence goes beyond simple feature upgrades; the popularization of technologies like ABS, traction control, vehicle connectivity, and OTA updates will drive motorcycles from traditional mechanical products to smart mobile terminals. High-end development requires companies to move from mass production to value creation, building brand premiums through design, craftsmanship, quality, and service. Green development means that full lifecycle carbon management will gradually shift from a compliance requirement to a market competitive advantage.

Among these trends, upgrading standards and access systems is seen as a key force in improving the industry's quality. Liu Xin specifically pointed out that the new motor vehicle access regulations, effective January 1, 2027, will not only affect vehicle manufacturers but will also extend to the entire parts and supply ecosystem. 'The survival space that relied on simple assembly and low-level supporting parts will continue to shrink, and the entire industry chain must improve quality as a whole, achieving a jump from "large-scale support" to "high-level support,"' he said.

This change means that meeting vehicle standards cannot be based on parts falling behind. Every component-from engines, batteries, motors, and electronic controls to brake systems, tires, frames, and smart cockpits-needs to enhance development and validation capabilities around requirements for safety, reliability, green standards, and intelligence. For companies that have long faced homogenous competition and insufficient R&D investment, this is both a challenge and an important opportunity to drive transformation and upgrading.

Liu Xin believes motorcycles are not just a 'side player' in the automotive industry but an indispensable part of China's motorized transportation system. In the face of new demands for high-end development in transportation equipment, the motorcycle industry should proactively integrate into the overall innovation strategy for national transportation equipment, drawing on the mature experiences of the automotive industry in platform-based development, simulation verification, intelligent vehicle core systems, and vehicle-cloud collaboration, while strengthening forward-looking development capabilities.

The core of this approach is to promote the industry from being 'manufacturing-oriented' to a new stage of collaborative development in 'R&D, manufacturing, service, and operation.' In the past, China's motorcycle industry had advantages in manufacturing scale and supply chain support. In the future, turning this advantage into technological, standards, brand, and global business advantages will also require addressing gaps in high-end components, basic materials, testing and certification, data accumulation, and overseas service networks.
